The slim clamshell phone offers a unique living wallpaper user interface that changes with the time of day. | | Verizon Service Options With support for the EV-DO high-speed data standard, you'll enjoy fast access to the Internet and Verizon's multimedia services (additional charges applicable), with average download speeds ranging from 400 to 700 Kbps and peak rates up to 2 Mbps. (Learn more about where EV-DO coverage is offered.) The V Cast Music service enables you to download songs instantly to your phone, or purchase music through your PC and transfer the files to your phone. If purchased from your phone, you'll receive two copies of the song: a Windows Media Audio Pro Plus format at 64Kbps stereo is sent to your phone, and a Windows Media Audio 9 format at 160Kbps stereo is sent to your account in the V CAST Music online store for downloading to your PC. V Cast Music offers nearly 2 million songs, with more being added all the time. With the V Cast Video service, you can stream or download video clips to your phone from a variety of news, entertainment, sports, and weather channels, including CNN, ABC News, E!, CBS Sports, The Weather Channel, and VH1. Getting on the Internet is easy using Verizon's Mobile Web 2.0 package, which allows you to read and send e-mails, exchange instant messages and view your favorite web content on your phone. Verizon's Get It Now wireless download service is also fully compatible with this phone. This pay-per-download service features application downloads, games and productivity tools. You can also personalize your handset with ringtone downloads using the Get It Now service. With this GPS-enabled phone, you'll be able to access Verizon's VZ Navigator service (additional charges applicable) for voice-prompted turn-by-turn directions, heads-up alerts, local search of nearly 14 million points of interest in the US (such as landmarks, restaurants and ATMs), and detailed color maps. And Verizon's Chaperone service lets you easily locate your loved ones from your Verizon Wireless phone or PC in real time. After defining a zone, such as an area designating a school or summer camp, you'll be sent an alert via text message when the Chaperone handset enters or leaves the zone. Phone Features The Samsung Gleam has a glossy metallic silver and black exterior and a unique living wallpaper capability that enables you to easily see the phoneâs status with either a driver's view of an animated country or city street with dashboard-like dials that changes with the time of day. An external LCD (96 x 96 pixels, 65K colors) also displays an analog clock in addition to signal strength, current time, and battery life. The internal 2.1-inch LCD has a 240 x 320-pixel resolution, support for 262K colors, and 8 lines of text. You can shoot video as long as your memory card has available space, and videos shot for MMS messaging are capped at 30 seconds. The digital audio player is compatible with MP3 and WMA files and offers a shuffle mode. This phone provides Bluetooth version 1.2 wireless connectivity, and includes profiles for communication headset, handsfree car kits, and audio/video remote control. With the A2DP Bluetooth profile, you can stream your music to a pair of compatible Bluetooth stereo headphones. You can connect your laptop (either via Bluetooth or wired USB) and enjoy dial-up networking--surf the Internet, send email, and access files from a server. A messaging and wireless Internet powerhouse, support is built in for sending and receiving pictures, text, graphics, sound and video via messages. When used in combination with the phone's built-in still and video camera, MMS opens up a whole new world of messaging fun. Instant messaging is also supported, and the phone ships with a built-in email client. The Gleam also comes stock with a built-in web browser for downloads and mobile web browsing. T9 text entry, which is a technology that makes it easier for entering text on handsets, is built into the unit--a plus for mobile email and text messaging users. The Gleam's internal phone book can hold up to 500 contact entries with five phone numbers and two emails per entry, while the phone's picture ID system allows you to assign pictures to your most common callers. The RIZR's voice dialing feature makes calling family, friends, and business associates as easy as saying their names. Other features include: - MicroSD expansion up to 4 GB

Superb little piece of equipment December 10, 2007 John Korkow (Vermillion, South Dakota) 14 out of 14 found this review helpful
My old Nokia, after 4 years of continuous use started to shut off without warning. I did not want to get a new phone, and reviewed sites for hours looking for a good replacement that was free through Verizon. This phone has only one thing I don't like, the tiny caps over the charger bay and the earphone plug--- I'm sure they last longer this way, but they are tiny and can be hard to open. With that said.. this phone is remarkably easy to set up, easy to use, has a bright easy to ready display and keypad. The bluetooth setup was fast and simple, in fact, set up was completely done, including manual transfer of my address book, in about 30 minutes. I couldn't be happier, great reception, looks good, in a nicely sized package.
Love this phone!!! February 18, 2008 Andrea (Astoria, NY USA) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
I'm absolutely nuts about this phone, which I got last week. It's lightweight and comfortable to hold, with number keys that are easy to dial because of the size and position. The camera is amazing, with clear images and accurate colors, and even automatically lightens up photos taken in dim light. The sound quality is good. I love the whole set up of the controls for this phone, very easy to navigate. It's also quite flat, making it convenient to carry. I've been making jokes to my friends that I'm madly in love with my cell phone and would marry it if I could! Mine is purple, by the way.
Fun Phone and easy to operate June 7, 2008 R. Taylor (Hamilton, OH United States) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Just got this phone about a week ago and love it. The keypad buttons are a good size, well lit. The sound for the music is just fine. Best flip type phone I have owned. The shiney gold trim makes it look sheek and sophisticated.
Perfect phone for me! November 20, 2007 K.C. Woodruff (Columbus, OH) 9 out of 10 found this review helpful
I got this phone for my "new every two" plan with Verizon. After using an old phone it was amazing to hear the difference in clarity once I made my first call. It has a nice mp3 player on it and the speakerphone is very loud on the low setting. Plenty of extras and options. Get the case for it though. It is so slim and easy to drop. The camera was a little off center, but not a big deal.
Good phone, but needs better Verizon support. January 3, 2008 David Borcherding (Loveland, OH United States) 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
I've had this phone for about a month now, and I'm starting to get used to it. My biggest complaint is Verizon's lack of support for it. Only one of their ringtone services works with it so far, and the address book backup service isn't supported for this phone yet. I haven't bothered trying some of the other services. Also, this phone doesn't synch with my Mac, even using third-party software. Hopefully, it's just so new that the vendors haven't caught up yet. Other than that, it's a fantastic phone. Very lightweight, great reception, wonderful clarity. The camera isn't the best and there's no flash, so taking indoor photos is usually disappointing. But it's a phone, not a camera, so I'm okay with that.
