| Customer Reviews:
Battery type is crucial April 8, 2008 Roger Fleischer (Santa Cruz, CA USA) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
At first I could not get the remote to work, and I assumed it was defective. After receiving a prompt exchange I discovered the problem: I had not used alkaline batteries. The instructions say use alkaline batteries, but I thought this was just a recommendation, so I had tried two brands of rechargeables without success. I even called the factory and they did not ask what kind of batteries I was using. Maybe I'm the only person in the world who does not follow instructions, but, hey, I'm a guy. After the exchanged unit did not work, it finally it dawned on me to re-read the instructions. I tried alkaline batteries and that solved the problem: everything works. There is a film over the recessed display marked "73". It can be hard to grab a corner by hand, but it easy to take off with the point of a safety pin. I appreciate having a remote to adjust the temperatue when I am not up to getting out of bed. I can hear a little "click" from the thermostat across the room when the base receives the signal from the remote and adjusts the thermostat. I also tested the remote when the base was downstairs, and it worked just as well between floors. In summary, this is a basic non-programmable thermostate with a remote at a reasonable price. The instructions could make it clear that you MUST use a battery marked "Alkaline" for all functions to work.
