This product is great for Astronomy. Do not let the 50 mW rating fool you. It will only burn through a black trash back only up against the laser and it will not light a match. You will need atleast 75 mW or more to pop a balloon and and 100 mW to light a match!!!. Its very bright much more brighter than a 5 mW laser. True it is very powerful and becareful with it since it is a green laser it will damage your eyes easaly and if you use in inside get Green Laser safty goggles thay are a must!!! I use it for Astronomy and that is my only use for it. If your wondering about the safty of this Laser. It DOSE have the IR filter in it You can see it if you shine a light down inside the lens its a blue-green color hue inside the diode. It peakes at 50 mW and 40 mW continuious load. So this laser is a solid product and well worth the money.

This laser pointer is appropriate for outdoor use. As far as I am concerned the people who were trying to use them indoors for presentations were lucky they got defective units.
I have purchased several green lasers directly from Hong Kong. These overpowered inexpensive lasers are always a risky proposition. So far one out of three from Hong Kong has been a dud. If you get one that is bright and works for more than a couple minutes at a time without over-heating and going dim, you are lucky. The one I received from Amazon is a good one. I also had the knowledge that this was a domestic seller who would take it back if it was defective.
I don't know if the laser is actually puting out 50mw. But it is pretty darned bright! I can see the dot up to half a mile away during the day. In dim conditions or indoors even the beam is very visible. This pointer is definately bright enough to be dangerous; be very careful especially around reflective surfaces! It is much too bright to use for an indoor presentation, but works well outdoors.

This is one amazing laser! You won't have any idea how bright this thing is until you actually get it. Outdoors the beam travels for miles and it almost appears endless. Nothing is out of reach for this laser! Even indoors with the lights on the beam is visible! It can pop balloons and burn through black trash bags almost instantly! The dot this laser produces is VERY bright so staring at it is not recommended. Also, this companies customer support is great! I emailed them about a question I had and they responded within ten minutes! Overall, this one amazing product at an amazing price sold by an amazing company. I may be buying another one! :)

just got this laser ship'd to me in 2 day's . let me tell you this thing is powerfull yes it will pop balloon's from 3ft away . yes you can see the beam it's not like a laghtsaber but you can see the thin green beam in the light . they should ship this thing with a pair of laser safty glass's .don't buy this for your kid's they will cook ther eye's out . or ther friend's eye's .can't wait till night time . just order'd another one . at this price might as well get 2.
