LOVE it after one day with it September 18, 2007 B. Larson (East Palo Alto, CA United States) 56 out of 59 found this review helpful
I bought this to replace my HP Photosmart 2710 that died after 2 years. I had spent 400 bucks on the old HP and for only 200 this thing blows it out of the water. A few specifics: SCAN: The scan quality is noticably better than the HP and I also like the software a lot more. Note that I am using this machine on a mac so I can't speak to what the PC experience is like. FAX: The fax is much smarter. I used to have to unplug the HP so it wouldn't answer the phone when I didn't want it to. The Canon can simply be told that phone should take priority and it won't pick up... at least not before my answering machiine does on ring number 4. This is nice because it means I don't have to mess with phone cords when I want to send a fax. PRINT: Works great. Set up three different computers to access on my network, although it did take me a minute to realize I had to use the "Canon IJ Network" option in the drop down for my computer to see the printer. If I had bothered to read the instructions it probably would have been quicker. ;) COPY: Also seems to work great. Similar to the HP here although the quality of the print seems a little better. I'll try to come back and add more detail after more use, but since there weren't any reviews yet I thought I'd add one now.
Best deal out there, plus you can make it wireless December 2, 2007 Marco (Orange County, CA) 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
I had a Dell 966 all in one, and could never get it to work right. I sold the 966 on ebay and got this MX700. Its network ready, so if you have a wireless router, this now becomes a wireless printer. Software set up was a no-brainer (I use Windows xp on all my computers). Now my wife can sit in the living room, and can print to the printer in the office. Dont spend your money on a wireless printer, when you can get this one, and hook it up to your wireless router for a lot less.
Met all expectations November 24, 2007 A. Tarshis 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
I wanted a multi function with fax/copier/scanner and printer that was also network ready. It took me less than 30 minutes to set this printer up on the network and connect all the computers to it. I have since connected other new computers to it very easily. The two paper feeders are great (we use them for draft and good paper). The scanner works well whether on the tray or the ADF - I have digitized lots of files and saves filing space. The fax worked a treat, and the copier is good too. Printing is pretty fast, and good quality. It would have been good to have duplex capability but its absence has not been a major drawback for me - YMMV.
Networking Just Works February 17, 2008 UCD Neuroscientist (Sacramento, CA USA) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
This is a truly great product. Every time I use it I marvel at how well it works *and* how inexpensive it was to purchase. It is astonishing to think that such powerful and versatile technology can be had for peanuts. I'd expect to pay at least 10 times the Amazon cost for such a product. Cost aside, this is a powerful machine. It scans rapidly and to high resolution. It copies small jobs without a hitch. It is a great color printer for home use. It is also a decent black & white printer. In general, I will always prefer a laser printer to an ink jet for presentation quality work. Not so much because the print quality is that much better (yes, it is very slightly better) but because the laser doesn't use a wet ink process which causes the cheap copy paper I use to pucker just slightly where the lettering has been laid down. So, the result is not business quality. Nevertheless, we use the MX700 for routine print jobs at our house, and we love it. BUT, the reason I am so happy I decided to purchase this machine is its built-in networking. Let me tell you, the networking works and it works perfectly. I agonized over whether to purchase the MP830, which doesn't have networking, and every time I use the MX700 I thank my lucky stars that I decided (at the last moment) to go with the MX700 instead. Everyone in our house has a computer and we all need to print occasionally. We use Windows XP configured as a workgroup. It was a complete no-brainer to set everyone up to print to the networked MX700. This is a huge advantage over the option of having the printer attached to a specific computer. If that computer gets turned off or has a glitch, printing would be interrupted. With the networked MX700, we can always print when we want to. I am so glad I didn't have to figure out a way to get the MP830 to work on the network! Also, I should mention that the scan software works really well in a networked environment. It is easy to scan a single sheet (platen) or multiple sheets (sheet feeder) directly to the computer over the network. You shouldn't hesitate to install the software on one of your machines to accept scans. I found that the software installed easily and hasn't caused any problems. However, I don't like to install unnecessary software and you don't need it if all you want to do is print. So, I only installed the software on the computer in the same room as the printer and all scans go to that computer. There is only one minor negative I can think of. This printer needs to be physically turned on before it can accept a print job. It would be nice if it sensed a print job and turned itself on. We had an HP LaserJet that did this and it was really convenient because you could initiate a print from another room in the house so that the printing takes place while you are walking over to pick up your print job.

Canon MX700 Office All-In-One ( 2186B002 ) This is a terrific all-in-one printer. I bought it to replace an HP all-in-one C5180, which wasn't even all that old, but I just didn't like it. It would whir and spin, and I'd have to wait for it to do whatever it was doing before it would start printing. Plus, the black was more like charcoal gray. I had it installed through my home network, and there would be a long delay between my hitting the print command and the document starting to print. The Canon MX700, on the other hand, while also installed through my home network, starts printing immediately. The color quality, including black, is excellent even in fast mode. The whole printer works very quickly. I read the reviews about the auto document feeder and actually haven't tried that yet, but everything else is impressively fast.
