People en Español U2's first three albums--Boy, October, and War--receive star treatment with these re-mastered versions, just as their legendary The Joshua Tree record did last year. Every album includes a second disc of b-side remixes, live versions, and rare performances that die-hard fans of the Irish band will surely appreciate. The box also has room for a fourth album (we assume it's for The Joshua Tree), but we can't help to think that they'll come out with a second Deluxe Edition Box Set next year, with even better albums from the band's vast musical catalog. --Ernesto Sánchez (People en Español )
Album Description This limited edition collectible U2 Deluxe Edition boxset is handsomely constructed in a sturdy hardbound shell, measuring 5 3/4" (width) x 2 3/4" (spine width) x 5 7/16" (tall) and comes with the newly remastered and expanded 2 CD deluxe editions of the bands first three albums BOY, OCTOBER and WAR, plus room for a fourth (not included). Re-mastered from the original audio tapes, each deluxe includes a disc of b-sides, live tracks and rarities, and the packaging on all three titles has been restored and expanded, with new liner notes for each record, previously unseen photos and full lyrics. This set also comes with a limited edition, exclusive 18'x24' full color replica poster from the bands beginnings, recreated just for this boxset.

Welcome home old friends August 4, 2008 Eric E. Weinraub (Issaquah, Washington United States) 8 out of 10 found this review helpful
From the opening riff of I will Follow, I had chills ... Like U2, I'm in my 40s and this was the music of my teen years. I may have been a little late to the U2 party becoming a fan with the release of October. That said, I always felt that that the one knock on all 3 of their first albums was production, not the mix. Between money and technology some of the band was lost between their performances in the studio and what we got in the shop. That has finally been taken care of. Edge has done an outstanding job of bringing these albums finally and completly to life. I am reminded of the re mastering job that Jimmy Page did on the Zeppelin catalog. The bonus tracks, as a whole, are both invigorating and illuminating. Many memories came back to me as I remember many of these songs from now long lost 12" singles. I hope I am not the only one who remembers the 12" single. My one complaint, albeit small, is the utterly poor choice of bonus tracks on War. ...and the poster is a nice touch
A worthy box set August 10, 2008 H. Yu (Cambridge, MA USA) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
When I saw this Deluxe Box Edition being advertised here on Amazon, I knew I had to have it. If I hadn't come across the box set, I would've bought all three deluxe remastered editions anyway (although, it would've cost me a bit more). In any case, not only do you get all three deluxe remastered editions in one box, but you also get a poster which I guess is part of the reason the box set is an Amazon exclusive. Without getting into too many details, each of the remastered albums is a vast improvement over the original counterpart. The sound comes across much brighter and more defined for the most part. And each deluxe edition comes with a bonus disc of live and unreleased recordings. It's especially interesting to hear the band (particularly Bono) in their early, post-adolescent stage as they perform early versions of "Out Of Control", "Boy-Girl", and "Stories For Boys" on the bonus disc for Boy. All the live and unreleased recordings are a necessary asset to any U2 fan, myself included. My only complaint is why do we need four different versions of "New Year's Day" and three different versions of "Two Hearts Beat As One" on the bonus CD for War? They're all enjoyable to a certain extent, but I wished the Edge (who oversaw the remastering and the selection of the rare and unreleased recordings) had included either more live tracks or more tracks that never saw the light of day. Anyway, if you're a serious U2 fan, you should have the box set as part of your collection. Can't wait for the Deluxe Edition of Live - Under A Blood Red Sky and the DVD for Live At Red Rocks to come out later this year! Let's also hope The Unforgettable Fire will get the Deluxe treatment as well!
A worthy upgrade August 2, 2008 Neil E. Black (Anchorage, AK United States) 5 out of 9 found this review helpful
I bought these three discs when they originally came out on cd around 1985 or 1986. Those were in flimsy paper cd digipacks, I guess you'd call them. Under A Blood Red Sky was issued that way as well. This box set doesn't contain that recording, but it does sound quite a bit better than the original cd releases. The poster is nothing great. I enjoyed hearing a bunch of the b-sides for the first time in a really long time. My brother purchased many of the vinyl singles back in the day, so I had recorded them to cassette a long time ago. Those tapes are in the landfill now, so it's nice to have and hear those songs again here. A worthy purchase (or re-purchase, actually). Can't wait to get UABRS, and I hope they give The Unforgettable Fire the treatment as well.
FABULOUS! August 17, 2008 Ariella Vaccarino (Los Angeles) 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
This plays to my generation, brings back great memories. Really one of the best bands ever. Great music, so powerful. This is a wonderful way for a new generation to fall in love with U2.
If you're a fan, this one's a must have July 31, 2008 Martin Balogh 7 out of 9 found this review helpful
Like many fans of U2's early work, I fell off the bandwagon after the Joshua Tree but this box set gets you all the goodies (and then some) that were never released on vinyl or CD, or at least not officially... and I don't count the Apple/iPod MP3 crap that was released with the U2 iPod. I have all their original first pressing singles and it's great to finally have them on a very good sounding CD, as auditioned on my mega-buck all tube system. There's a great first version of "Fire" called "Saturday Night" that, to me, is worth the price of admission alone. Never heard it before, never knew it existed. I think it's better than "Fire". Lyrics are completely different but the instrumentation is basically the same. Killer. Oh, did I mention the packaging? First rate. Jeez, I sound like a shill for their record label. I could write more but I think I'll go back to listening. Best 65 bucks I've spent in awhile.
