Product Description The compact, portable and stylish SANYO Xacti CG6 camcorder is designed to capture both photos and videos. The Xacti CG6 adopts the MPEG-4 high compression and recording format that enables VGA-size 640 x 480 video clips at 30 fps. The smaller sized files are easy to handle and enable many hours of high quality recording. Users can enjoy the beautiful quality on big screen TV's too. Audio recording uses the AAC-LC (MPEG-4 Audio) file format that delivers higher compression than MP3 and other earlier formats for small sized files. Digital produced high quality stereo is obtained by 2-channel 16-bit recording at 48 kHz. The CG6 can be easily carried anywhere and pictures can be taken on a whim anytime. This compact camcorder is designed to go with you everywhere all the time. It records both 6-Megapixel still images and 640x480 resolution digital video in a compact design. The CG6 combines the functionality of a digital camera and a digital camcorder in one stunning device. The Xacti CG6 features proprietary MPEG-4 engine to execute a vast number of calculations in a short period of time. This engine enables the Xacti CG6's advanced real-time MPEG-4 compression. The large 6.37-Megapixel CCD Image Sensor allows the CG6 to capture high-resolution 6-Megapixel still images in addition to recording high-quality digital videos with full-range stereo sound. The Xacti CG6's MPEG-4 files can be directly imported into iTunes software and easily transferred to your video-capable iPod allowing you to share a quick video. Happy As A Clam January 12, 2008 C. Sundberg (Los Angeles, CA United States) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I wanted a camcorder for an upcoming trip to Europe but did not want something that took up a lot of space or required a great deal of study and practice before operating (I am definitely not a gadget-techie!) I was immediately attracted to the solid, sleek, compact design of the Sanyo xacti CG6 but decided to do my homework before diving blindly into the purchase. After spending hours scouring the internet for reviews and product demonstrations I felt confident this was exactly what I was looking for. I am very happy to announce that it performed beautifully on my trip - not a glitch, easy to operate (even for me)for the price it's perfect and I couldn't be happier!
No moving parts May 15, 2008 Romina Wilcox (Silicon Valley Author) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
And no tapes. I like the size, its very portable. I can take it where ever I go. It has a nice big screen. It takes pictures as well as shoot video. It has a 6 MP sensor, and good stereo sound. It create standard mpeg4 files that can be directly imported into imovie with no conversion needed. Video quality is better than my DV tape. It has trouble with low light, but not terrible and is completely usable, just don't expect a thousand dollar quality. Highly recommended. Cold Eyes
Very easy to use! March 10, 2008 James Lomax (Pasadena, CA) Sanyo delivers in a compact simple cam corder that uses SD cards for memory making it easy to transport to a PC. I do recommend purchasing an extra battery because they go quickly.
Best of the Standard Def Palmcorders! Mac/PC Compatible! April 8, 2008 S. Borenstein (Sacramento, CA) I highly recommend this camera for the family enthusiast wanting to capture moments with a decent picture quality, but without the need of DV or HD quality video.
We did a lot of research on cameras before purchasing the Sanyo Xacti CG6 and I remain surprised that this camera is not more popular. Of all the palmcorders, this one is by far the most well rounded. For starters, it has a decent picture (for a palmcorder), the image stabilization is ok (not super, but noticeably working), and it's MP4 format is easy to work with. Major bonus points go to this camera for the decent size and camcorder like view screen, removable SD media and removable battery. For shooting the baby, we find the pivoting/rotating and big screen really nice. Unlike other palmcorders, you can carry extra SD cards and batteries, which is a huge benefit. I also like the the amount of manual control available, and the menu system is comprehensive and easy to navigate. Finally, being a Mac OSX guy, this camera mounts like a drive and the MP4 format imports seamlessly into Mac apps, particularly iMovie. The USB 2.0 port is easily accessed and files transfer VERY fast to the computer. I use a 4GB SDHC card and the highest video setting (640x480, 30fsp, 3Mbps), which stores 2:45 of video, and a spare card in the camera bag. I also have spare battery, but have not yet needed it (I rarely shoot more than an hour between transfers to the computer).
There are only a couple of things that I think could be improved on this camera (and I really have to dig to think them up): - it would be nice if there was an internal lens cap, but the one it's got is ok - The 6MP stills are mediocre in quality. But, that's why we have a digital camera and this is a video camera. - we found a case that really protects the controls well, they seem a little vulnerable to damage.
Fast shipping April 9, 2008 G. L. Scott (Deep in the silicon forest) Great little camera. I was considering the purchase of a new flip camera until I found this camera. With a true optical zoom and small size it is the ideal camera to throw in you pocket or backpack for any outing.
My only complaint is that the manual is somewhat confusing but that's a common problem for digital cameras in general.
