After having terrible luck with the many baby carriers and slings I purchased when my first child was born, I decided to take the advice of a friend and invest in a Baby Bjorn Active Carrier. I am so glad that I did as it has been a lifesaver in our very busy household! This carrier is quite sturdy and provides excellent back support (I dig the lumbar strap!) allowing me to carry my baby around for long stretches of time while freeing my hands to attend to my toddler, get work done around the house, shop, and take walks. And, I should note, I don't have the strongest of backs! Most importantly, my little boy loves being snuggled inside close to my heart and passes the time away comfortably and often naps in the carrier. It also helps ease his crying when he's fussy, collicky, or overtired. A huge perk that I've experienced is that when in public strangers tend to keep their distance (and their germs!) from the baby when in the carrier, as another reviewer also pointed out. Hence I'm more at ease to attend social gatherings, do grocery shopping, or visit the mall. It is also fairly easy to nurse the baby in a discreet manner while in the carrier. As for the comfort benefits of the Active Carrier, I cannot say enough. This model distributes the child's weight evenly and provides ample lower back support while still preventing that very painful digging into the shoulders that I experienced with my previous front carrier. It also seems to fit well on a variety of adult body sizes, male/female, tall/short, thin/plump, etc. Equally important to me is that it is extremely easy to use and to put on or take off. The initial instructions were super clear to follow and helpfully illustrated how to connect the two pieces of the carrier, tighten or loosen the straps, and, of course, how to safely load or unload the baby (which can literally be done in seconds). This was a huge relief as it erased my concerns about not using it correctly and possibly harming the baby. I also know that as he grows I will be able to adjust the carrier according to his height with the greatest of ease! The Baby Bjorn Active Carrier has been well worth the investment so far and I anticipate using it in the months to come!

This would be it! The swing, bouncer, etc. are nice, but none of them will keep my baby happy and interested for hours on end. The bjorn is also the only thing that cured her crankiness during teething.
Best of all, I don't have to feel guilty about using it for as long as I want, since she is right there with me.
Like a number of reviewers, I found that once my baby got to about 15 pounds, I couldn't wear the carrier for more than half an hour at a time before feeling back strain. But even so -- I wear it about 3 times a day for half an hour at a time, and that's an hour and a half of housework, cooking (though I don't wear it in the kitchen when there's any heat on -- too dangerous), cleaning, organizing, etc. that I can do while she looks around, wide-eyed, fascinated and happy.

I registered for and eventually purchased for myself the Active Carrier. I love this carrier. With a bad back, I find the lumbar support VERY helpful. I do have to tighten it up, but is far from cutting off my breathing. My little girl loves riding in it too. She usually falls asleep within minutes of me putting her in it.
If you aren't sure if you'll like it, go to babies R' us and see if they will let you try on the display model. They would at my store. LOL Throw in some heavy cans of liquid formula to see how it feels with weight. :)
Why I love this carrier:
1. I love giving my little girl kisses on her head when I am out running errands.
2. I love the attention she gets and the "oh isn't that cute" when I have her in it, while at the same time I love the distance those people keep since she's strapped to my chest (as opposed to my friend who has people leaning in on her stroller to get a closer look at the baby.) Ewww.
3. I love being able to use my arms when I shop or go out.
4. I don't feel lop-sided like I do when I carry around a car carrier. (I hate seeing guys lug around infant car carriers while their wives follow behind them with the diaper bag. The baby jerks around in the carrier with each uncomfortable step his/her parent takes.)
5. I really don't have any trouble sitting or even eating when I have the carrier on with her in it.
6. The lumbar support saves my back. I have degenerative disk disease and have had two herniated disks, but with this carrier, I have not had any problems even after a day at the mall (at least 3 hours of walking around with a 12 pound baby.)
7. It really is quite soothing to my little girl as she tends to sleep the entire time unless she's hungry.
The only thing I don't like about it is that it's getting warmer outside and with the padding I get a little sweaty where the carrier sits (the small of my back and my shoulders.) :(

I really wanted to buy this item before my daughter was born. The few times I've used it, I found it was very comfortable for me, and my daughter was okay in it for a short while. However, I haven't found much use for it. When taking a walk, I instead put her in her carriage, because the BabyBjorn carrier is too hot: the carrier is very insulating, and I live in South Carolina. We walk around the house in the BabyBjorn carrier sometimes for fun, that's about it.

I want to qualify my review by saying that this is the only carrier I've ever used. There may be others that are good, but I have gotten a lot of use out of this one!
This carrier is extremely comfortable. It adjusts to fit me (5'7") as well as my husband (around 6'). We have used it since our son was 3 months old, and are still using it now that he's a year old. I used it a lot when he was smaller - for running errands, walking outside, and just soothing him before naps by strolling around our house. We also used it for travelling - it packs very well in the front pouch of a large suitcase, and is extremely helpful in the airport. Much less bulky than a stroller.
Now that he is older and heavier (one year old, about 20 pounds) I use it less, but he still seems comfortable in it when we do use it. I like the back support panel, as it helps to make me more comfortable. Though don't be fooled - a heavy baby is a heavy baby. You can only use it for so long before your shoulders and back will feel it!
This carrier can be used with the baby facing you or the world - a nice feature when baby gets old enough to explore while you're walking around. I have been very pleased with this carrier, and highly recommend it to others. It is somewhat pricey, but is very durable and very comfortable - according to other moms I've talked with, many of the less expensive versions just can't compare.
