Amazon.com Review Parents of preemies and infants at increased risk of SIDS lose a lot of sleep wondering if their babies are still breathing. Even parents of healthy babies experience this kind of anxiety. With its movement sensor pad, sound transmitter, sound lights, and movement detecting "ticking" sound, The Angelcare Movement Sensor with Sound Monitor can take away virtually all this anxiety. Three Functions, Infinite Peace of Mind The Angelcare Movement Sensor has three modes of use, enabling parents to use the sensor/sound monitor well into toddlerhood and beyond, if desired. With the Sound & Movement function, you can hear your baby's sounds, see sound lights, and hear a "tic" sound with every movement the baby makes. If no movement is detected, the "tic" will stop and after 20 seconds the alarm will sound. In the Tic Off mode you will not hear the ticking sound with every movement. However, you will still hear the baby's sounds and see sound lights, and your baby's movement is still being detected. An alarm will still sound if absolutely no movement is detected for 20 seconds. And finally, with Sound Only, the movement sensor is disabled, but you will still be able to hear your baby's sounds and see sound lights. In this mode, the Angelcare functions as a regular sound monitor. For many parents, just being able to hear the sighs and squeaks of the newest member of the family is reassurance enough. For those who need more input, for whatever reason, the additional sensory features of the Angelcare can be lifesaving. How the Angelcare Movement Sensor Works A sensor pad is placed under the center of baby's crib mattress on a flat, hard surface. The sensor pad cord passes underneath the mattress entirely, exiting the crib in the corner. It is then plugged into the jack of the nursery unit transmitter. The nursery unit can be plugged into an electrical outlet or it can operate with four AAA batteries. The same goes for the parents' unit receivers (two parents' units included). Turn the parents' units on by selecting either channel A or B. Make sure they're set to the same channel as the nursery unit. Set the nursery unit to the desired mode (Sound & Movement, Tic Off, or Sound Only). You may leave one parents' unit in your bedroom and carry the other with you as you move about the house and yard. Now, depending on the function you've selected, you'll be able to keep track of your baby's every sound and movement. Sound Lights Indicator lights on an LED sound bar (on the parents' unit) allow you to "see" your baby's sounds if background noises prevent you from hearing baby. As baby's sounds get louder, more lights illuminate. Optional "Tic" Feature When the nursery unit is set to Sound & Movement, it will continuously tick with every movement your baby makes. If no movement is detected by the sensor pad beneath baby's mattress, the ticking will stop. Movement Indicator Light The movement indicator light is located only on the nursery unit. When the nursery unit is set to Sound & Movement or Tic Off, the movement indicator light will flash green with baby's every movement. The flashing green light will let you know that movement is being detected, which will allow you to check on a sleeping baby in the dark. False Alarms False alarms are possible with the Angelcare Movement Sensor, especially if instructions have not been followed to a "t". Make sure to turn off the nursery unit after you've taken baby out of the crib. Also, once baby starts being more mobile, she may roll right off the sensor pad area of the mattress. A troubleshooting guide in the instruction manual gives other solutions to false alarms. What's in the Box Angelcare Movement Sensor includes movement sensor pad, nursery sound monitor, two parents' units, instruction manual, and three AC adapters. Twelve AAA batteries are required (not included).--Emilie Coulter
Amazon.com For parents of preemies and babies at greater risk of developing SIDS, the Angelcare Movement Sensor is a lifesaverliterally. A sensor pad goes under baby's mattress and detects baby's slightest movements, even if he is sleeping soundly. If the sensor does not pick up any movement for 20 seconds, an alarm sounds over the two portable receivers and alerts parents. Along with the sensor is a traditional baby monitor that transmits all sound from the nursery to the two receivers. The receivers have a range of up to 200 feet and have light indicators that correspond with the noise level. The monitor and receivers have two channels and low battery indicator lights. Each unit can operate either by four "AAA" batteries or AC adapter (two included). This full-spectrum monitoring system is the recipient of numerous awards and is covered by a one-year limited warranty. --Cristina Vaamonde

Product Description Our Movement Sensor with Sound Monitor detects your baby's slightest movements, even while she sleeps. While it may seem that your baby is perfectly still when she is sleeping, she really isn't. The under-the-mattress Sensor Pad detects your baby's slightest movements. If your baby goes absolutely still for 20 seconds, the Sensor Pad sends a signal to the Nursery Unit which sounds an alarm alerting you to check your baby. If you are out of the baby's room, the two portable Parents' Units (Sound Monitor) will pick up the alarm as well as other nursery sounds. In addition, the Nursery Unit has an optional "tic" feature. If the Sensor Pad senses movement, the Nursery Unit will continuously tick. If it doesn't, the ticking will stop. The two Parents' Units give you the flexibility of always leaving one in your bedroom while moving the second unit to the room you are in while your baby is sleeping. Your crib must have a hard flat surface. If it does not, just place a piece of masonite or a board under the mattress and place the Sensor Pad on top of the masonite and under the mattress. Be sure to place the correct side of the Sensor Pad facing up. The Angelcare Movement Sensor will give you the peace of mind you won't get from just a sound monitor or even a video monitor. And, this monitor is an excellent value. It is 2 monitors in 1 so you don't have to purchase a sound monitor. The Movement Sensor with Sound Monitor includes an Under-the-Mattress Sensor Pad, a Nursery Unit, 2 Parents' Units (sound monitor) and 3 AC adapters. It can also operate with 12 AAA batteries (not included).

Great Monitor for Peace of Mind January 28, 2005 A. Moore (Bay Area,CA USA) 357 out of 359 found this review helpful
We have used it with the movement sensor for my son's first year and without the movement sensor for the last 6 months. (My son is now 18 months old.) We love this monitor for several reasons. 1. The monitor with movement sensor can be used in a basinet, portable crib, or a regular crib. Just make sure you put a plywood board under the sensor pad if the bottom of the basinet or crib is soft or just a spring base. This helps prevent false alarms. The sensor also packs easily in a suitcase for travel. 2. The monitor has a good range and is clear. We have a large house and yard. This monitor works at the complete opposite end of the house and throughout our yard. 3. Our son was a preemie and this monitor gave us the piece of mind to sleep at night, especially with the fear of SIDS. It truly detects movement and not just weight. (We tested it with a large dictionary and the sensor went off after a few seconds.) It picks up your child's movement from breathing even in the sounded state of sleep. When our son started rolling over and became a tummy sleeper (even though we put him to bed on his back) the monitor was the only reason I slept at night. 4. You can use this sensor in several modes. It has one mode that give an audible beep with each movement as well as detecting sounds from the nursery (for extra piece of mind and so you know it is working if you are really nervous), another mode that detects movement (and sounds) and sets off an alarm if baby does not move for 15 seconds, and the last mode lets you shut off the movement sensor and use it just as a sound monitor (great for an older baby or toddler and you don't need to buy a new monitor). We also liked that before the alarm went off, it gave a warning beep. This gave us time to go in and check on our son, before the alarm went off and woke him up. We had no false alarms with this monitor when our son was an infant, and a few when he started really moving in his sleep because he would roll off the monitor pad. It just took a little experimentation with pad placement to fix this situation. 5. Baby slept better with this monitor because we were not constantly going into his room to check on him and accidentally waking him up. 6. The monitor also has a light display that lights up more lights (in a row) when your child makes more noise. I can visually look at the monitor in the middle of the night and tell by the display if he is sleeping soundly. 7. The monitor has two bands (a & b). You can switch bands on both the nursery and parent unit if one band is getting a lot of static or interference. If you have two small children you can also use two monitors, one set to each band. We love this monitor so much that we are planning on purchasing a second unit before the birth of our second child.
Excellent! Get it! You won't be sorry September 7, 2004 B. Petty (Kingwood, Tx United States) 127 out of 134 found this review helpful
I got this after considerable research on baby movement sensors. I compared features, false alarms, etc. And I can tell you can I have been VERY pleased after using this for 2 months after bringing home out baby from the hospital. Our little 2 month sleeps for 10 hours straight through the night! Why? Because with the Angelcare Movement Sensor, we're not afraid to let him sleep on his belly. Of course, we remove all blankets and the pillow to reduce the chance of SIDs. But I have complete faith in this product. We using the sensor in a basinet for now. Make sure the sensor is under a wooden board. I think the people who have had bad luck with this product maybe didn't follow these directions. The sensor has gone off twice. Once when he was 2 weeks old and later when he was 6 weeks old. We came running to check him out and he was fine. We'll never know if it was a false signal, but again, I trust my son's life with it. It's eased our sense of fear of SIDs and let's us get a full night's sleep. I highly recommend it.
Saved my baby's life September 29, 2004 L. Solberg (Monterey, CA USA) 17 out of 18 found this review helpful
My baby had RSV at 7 weeks old, and was sent home from the er as not being sick enough to admit him. That night he was having such respatory distress that he quit breathing at 3am. The alarm went off, and we were able to start him breathing again. Needless to say, he spent the next 8 days in the hospital on breathing monitors, but if he didn't have that at night, he would not be here now. He's now 20 months old and doing fine! I would definately buy this monitor again.
I agree with the great reviews... April 14, 2005 Maria Poole (Southeast) 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
of this wonderful monitor. My son is 5 months old and no matter how many times I lay him down on his back to sleep he ends up on his stomach. Supposedly he is too old for the sleep positioners since he can roll over so this monitor has been great. I have not had problems with false alarms like one reviewer which was a worry when I registered for it. This is my first child so I am very concerned about the SIDS issue and of course this has added to my peace of mind. I have a crib with the spring base so I did have to cut a piece of plywood to lay the sensor pad on when my son started sleeping in the crib. Before that I had him sleeping in the Ocean Wonders Cradle Swing and simply put the sensor pad between the seat cushion and the plastic cradle form. It was most successful with the cradle swing completely still of course but I have used it with the swing on at times as well. You can always check to see if it works by leaving the monitor on and taking the baby off the sensor pad. In 20 seconds it will sound the alarm to let you know that there is no movement. It is a great invention since there are differing ideas on what causes SIDS. Genetics have been suggested but until this is confirmed I will take no chances even though the risks do go down after you child reaches 6 months. I really appreciated receiving it as a shower gift.
MUST HAVE! January 15, 2007 DitchDigger (Park Ridge, NJ United States) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
A must have. I can't understand how parents don't own this...and why non-motion sensor monitors are even on the market. This has kept us at ease at night. Get one....
